Gail Thomas discusses the distinctive landscape and architectural structures of the historic Muirkirk Iron Works. With photographs & artifacts, Thomas examines the everyday lives of the African American iron workers and the buildings, churches and social organizations that they created in the historic community of Muirkirk. The discussion will also highlight the interaction between the residents of Muirkirk and the African American community of the grove in Laurel. Thomas is manager of the M-NCPPC's Black History Program. Families welcome.
